John M0IDA, Rob M0VFC and Steve M1ACB hope to be QRV from Little Harbour Cay, Berry Islands, IOTA NA-054, locator FL15do.
We fly into the Bahamas on 2nd March, but it’ll take us a couple of days to get there, so we hope to be QRV around the 4th March – but this is very much weather dependent, as is the whole operation. We fly back to the UK at the end of the 12th March, which means we will need to de-rig on the 10th or 11th, again varying according to the weather.
Operation probably won’t be 24/7 – we’ll do as much as we can, but eating and sleeping is back on the boat, there’s only three of us, and we’ll probably want to go for the occasional swim as well.
We’ll be running up to three stations simultaneously, all Elecraft K3s at 100W. We’re generator powered and have to carry the full week’s fuel with us on the boat, hence no amps.
We’re expecting that most QSOs will be 15-40m; we’ll monitor the higher HF bands as well and may venture on to 10/12 if propagation favours them; similarly we may throw up an 80m dipole but don’t expect to do very much, if anything, there. There will definitely be CW (op M0VFC) and SSB (ops M0IDA and M1ACB); we may also do some data if time permits.
We should be active on some satellite passes with hand-held antennas: the FM birds will only cover parts of the USA, and not EU, so we’ll attempt some FO-29 passes as well. We aren’t satellite experts though, so be patient with us.
QSL is via M0OXO’s OQRS system.
We will upload to Club Log and LotW regularly throughout the trip, assuming all the kit plays nicely.

Nous nous rendons aux Bahamas le 2 mars, mais il nous faudra quelques jours pour y arriver, alors nous espérons être QRV autour du 4 mars – mais cela dépend beaucoup du temps, tout comme l’ensemble de l’opération. Nous retournons au Royaume-Uni à la fin du 12 mars, ce qui signifie que nous aurons besoin de dé-plate-forme le 10 ou 11, à nouveau en fonction de la météo
Opération ne sera probablement pas 24/7 – nous ferons tout ce que nous pouvons, mais manger et dormir est de retour sur le bateau, il n’y a que trois d’entre nous, et nous allons probablement envie d’aller pour la baignade occasionnelle ainsi .
Nous allons exécuter jusqu’à trois stations simultanément, toutes les Elecraft K3 à 100W. Nous sommes alimentés par générateur et avons à transporter le carburant de la semaine entière avec nous sur le bateau.
Nous nous attendons à ce que la plupart des QSO soient de 15 à 40 m; Nous allons surveiller les bandes plus élevées HF ainsi et peut s’aventurer à 10/12 si la propagation favorise eux; De même, nous pouvons jeter un dipôle de 80m, mais ne vous attendez pas à faire beaucoup, voire rien. Il y aura certainement CW (op M0VFC) et SSB (opérations M0IDA et M1ACB); Nous pouvons également faire quelques données si le temps le permet..
Nous devrions être actifs sur certaines passes satellites avec des antennes portables: les oiseaux FM ne couvriront que des parties des États-Unis, et non pas de l’UE, alors nous allons essayer quelques passes FO-29 aussi. Nous ne sommes pas des experts par satellite, alors soyez patient avec nous.

NEWS UPDATE: RT9K/9 – an expedition of « The Legend of the Arctic » islands of the Kara Sea (IOTA AS-054, AS-068, AS-104 and AS-121) distance more than 4000 km in 45 days!
February 14, 2017 the over-snow expedition of “The Legend of the Arctic” – RT9K/9 – on the islands of the Kara Sea begins. The expedition will take place under flags of Russian Robinson Club and the Russian Geographical Society, devoted to the 120th anniversary of the Arctic expedition of Fridtjof Nansen on the vessel “Fram” in 1893-1896.

Participants plan autonomous passing of a route on 7 snowmobiles: from the Yamal Peninsula to Dikson Island (AS-005) to the extreme northern point of Eurasia continent – Cape Chelyuskin further to the planned islands. At the movement to the north on islands warehouses with fuel and food for work on air on the way back will be left. It is expected that island activity will begin with the most northern island Gelland-Gansena (AS-054) along a route, but will depend on ice and weather situation (now along the coast and around islands there is open water!). By calculations – in the first of March. Broadcast of an online route will be available on the Internet and amateur network APRS. Au mouvement vers le nord sur les entrepôts des îles avec du carburant et de la nourriture pour travailler sur l’air sur le chemin du retour sera laissé. Andy, E51AND will be traveling to Nassau Atoll departing Saturday 28th January arriving Nassau on Tuesday/Wednesday as part of a team to assess the damage to MV Moana Nui grounded on the reef at Nassau yesterday. (thus “Danger Islands”)
He is taking a Yaesu FT857D, LDG tuner and a 43ft vertical he hopes to mount in or near the lagoon. Limited to 75 – 100watts SSB and QRS CW. Very basic station. No internet.
The primary focus will be the assessment of the vessel, but he hopes to operate on 1st, 2nd and 3rd February during his spare time and in the evenings (0500z – 0900Z) on whichever bands are open. Logs will be uploaded to LoTW, Club Log and QRZ after his return around February 11th.
NOTE: He is attempting to secure the callsign E51AD or E51AN for this North Cooks operation to distinguish it (and future N Cooks operations) from his regular South Cooks activities.

In the period July-August of 2017, a group of Amateur radio operators is preparing an expedition to the Commander Islands group AS-039.
Commander Islands — an archipelago of four Islands in the South-Western part of the Bering sea of the Pacific ocean. The administrative part of the Aleut district of the Kamchatka Krai of Russia. The island is named after who discovered them in 1741, Explorer commander Vitus Bering.
In the team’s plans included visiting the most remote Islands – Mednyj (Copper). Island remote from the American Aleutian Islands at a distance of 190 miles. [LINK]

Furthermore, activity from Isla de Lobos NA-221 is also planned for March and May 2017.
