MARCH 24 — The DXpedition will go off the air on March 26 @ 18:00 GMT – local midnight – when the license expires. Until then, around and after local sunrise at 00:00 GMT, S21ZED is QRV on 20m for NA. This morning around 50 NA stations made it into the log. In total until the last Club Log upload there are around 41621 QSOs in the log.

MARCH 19, 2017 – I’m still active and would be active until 2019 minimum so don’t worry if you don’t break the pile-up anyway, if it is not for this time it will be for a next time.
I’m currently active on 40, 20, 17, 12, 10 M and CW basically because it’s the easiest for me with my 100W and a simple dipole. I cannot work on 80 and 15 M with the ICOM7300 that doesn’t automatic tune on these two bands. I plan to bring back a manual tuning box the next time I go to France to solve the problem.
For the 160M with 100W, I do not know if it’s really usefull, all the stations I heard have much better traffic conditions and were only received 55. I will try anyway in the future to find an antenna adequate to my QTH but it seems complicated and there is not a lot of things here to build an homemade. An amplifier should arrive in the middle of the year, only 300W output but it will be better than nothing.
About me, I would like just to remember that I am not a DX expedition. I practice radio in my free time, often after a busy day. The QSL is free via buro, just have patience. Those who send F5MXH directly to receive it faster are asked to participate as usual.
For LOTW, we will upload once we have received a significant number of QSLs to avoid some errors in uploaded logs (and some cries). I stopped the radio for more than 15 years, the recovery was difficult, but it’s like cycling, it does not get lost! and no problem anymore.
So I ask a little patience for some OM, when I start a call sign, I like to concretize it, even if I have to repeat 20 times his partial callsign to finish it, often drowned in the QRM because I am stubborn.
I would do a recording soon so that you can realize how difficult it is sometimes to hear the stations just because the QRM level is impossible to eliminate but I work with and I am applying to get the call signs in the noise.
When the propagation is present, it completely changes the way of trafficking since I manage to reach the 150 QSO per hour without any problem. There are some good sporadic openings on 10M sometimes just for an hour, but surprising.
I am also surprised by the number of double in my log. I am currently at 5700 QSO registered and I have 259 double? Often always the same stations that contacted me 7 or 8 times on the same bands, what is the interest ? They insist in the pile-up as it was the first time, I am obliged to answer them to release the frequency of their call, because i can’t listen others with their big signals.
Some news about the modes, I just configure the RTTY and I would try some QSOs soon. Thank you for being indulgent, I have never done before! Hi!

LE 19 MARS 2017 – Je suis toujours actif et je serais actif jusqu’en 2019 minimum alors ne vous inquiétez pas si vous ne cassez pas le pile-up de toute façon, si ce n’est pas pour cette fois, ce sera pour une prochaine fois.
Je suis actuellement actif sur 40, 20, 17, 12, 10 M et CW essentiellement parce que c’est le plus facile pour moi avec mon 100W et un simple dipôle. Je ne peux pas travailler sur 80 et 15 M avec l’ICOM7300 qui ne s’accorde pas automatique sur ces deux bandes. Je prévois ramener une boîte d’accord manuelle la prochaine fois que je vais en France pour résoudre le problème.
Pour les 160M avec 100W, je ne sais pas si c’est vraiment utile, toutes les stations que j’ai entendues ont beaucoup mieux les conditions de circulation et ont été seulement reçus 55. Je vais essayer de toute façon à l’avenir pour trouver une antenne adéquate à ma QTH mais il semble compliqué Et il n’y a pas beaucoup de choses ici pour construire une maison. Un amplificateur devrait arriver dans le milieu de l’année, seulement 300W de sortie, mais il sera mieux que rien.
En ce qui me concerne, je voudrais simplement me rappeler que je ne suis pas une expédition DX. Je pratique la radio dans mon temps libre, souvent après une journée bien remplie. Le QSL est gratuit via buro, il suffit de patience. Ceux qui envoient F5MXH directement pour les recevoir plus rapidement sont invités à participer comme d’habitude.
Pour LOTW, nous téléverserons une fois que nous aurons reçu un nombre significatif de QSL pour éviter certaines erreurs dans les journaux téléchargés (et certains cris). J’ai arrêté la radio pendant plus de 15 ans, la récupération a été difficile, mais c’est comme faire du vélo, ça ne se perd pas! Et aucun problème plus.
Alors je demande un peu de patience pour certains OM, quand je commence un indicatif d’appel, je tiens à le concrétiser, même si je dois répéter 20 fois son indicatif partiel pour le terminer, souvent noyé dans le QRM parce que je suis têtu.
Je ferais un enregistrement bientôt afin que vous puissiez réaliser combien il est difficile d’entendre les stations seulement parce que le niveau QRM est impossible à éliminer, mais je travaille avec et je demande pour obtenir les signes d’appel dans le bruit.

I’m looking for a few skilled HF operators to join me on a cruise to Central Kiribati (T31 / OC-043) for a full week on Nikumaroro Island. We would sail on the Reef Endeavour from Fiji along with the TIGHAR organization which has been searching to learn where Amelia Earhart might have met her demise.

I’m in touch with the organizers and they are OK with having a group set up tents, tables and antennas for a DXpedition. They will be providing transportation back and forth from the island to the cruise ship twice a day, so operators can eat and sleep on the ship if desired. I cruised on this ship in Fiji and know the diving facilities and staff are first-rate. Nikumaroro is a remote uninhabited island in the Phoenix Islands Protected Area so this would also provide diving experiences of a lifetime. And for non-divers they have a nice glass bottom boat too.
And, if these guys are right about Amelia ditching on Nikumaroro and find her aircraft off the reef, well, wouldn’t it be cool to be there?
Of course, Dom’s (3Z9DX) recent T31 activation on Kanton Island took a bite out of demand for this rare DXCC, yet it still remains #17 on the Clublog global most wanted list. I’m considering going but need a few more operators to make the logistics work out in getting all of the gear to Fiji we would need to make a serious effort. A Rotuma activation (Clublog #55) might also be possible by flying up there in advance and having the ship pick us up on the way to Nikumaroro (it stops briefly at Rotuma on the way up and at Futuna on the way back).
It’s about $2k r/t to Fiji and $9k for the cruise.

Je suis à la recherche de quelques qualifiés HF opérateurs pour se joindre à moi sur une croisière à Central Kiribati (T31 / OC-043) pour une semaine complète sur Nikumaroro Island. Je suis en contact avec les organisateurs et ils sont OK avec un groupe mis en place des tentes, des tables et des antennes pour une DXpedition. Ils fourniront le transport aller-retour de l’île au bateau de croisière deux fois par jour, ainsi les opérateurs peuvent manger et dormir sur le bateau si désiré. J’ai navigué sur ce navire à Fidji et de connaître les plongées et le personnel est de premier ordre. Nikumaroro est une île isolée et déserte dans la zone protégée des îles Phœnix, ce qui fournirait également des expériences de plongée d’une vie. Et pour les non-plongeurs, ils ont un joli bateau à fond de verre aussi.
Et, si ces gars-là ont raison d’Amélie s’embarquer sur Nikumaroro et trouver son avion au large du récif, eh bien, ne serait-il pas cool d’être là ?
Bien sûr, l’activation récente de T3 de Dom (3Z9DX) sur l’île de Kanton a pris une bouchée de la demande pour ce DXCC rare, pourtant elle reste encore # 17 sur la liste de la plupart des souhaités de Clublog. Je pense aller mais ont besoin d’un peu plus d’opérateurs pour faire la logistique work out en obtenir tous les engins à Fidji, nous aurions besoin de faire un effort sérieux. Une activation de Rotuma (Clublog # 55) pourrait également être possible en volant là haut à l’avance et ayant le navire nous chercher sur le chemin de Nikumaroro (il s’arrête brièvement à Rotuma sur le chemin et à Futuna sur le chemin du retour).

Pete SQ9D & Massimo IZ4DPV are being active this week under the D4Z callsign from Monteverde Contest Station in São Vicente (AF-086). The activity is rather sporadic due to big load of work in preparation to the CQ WPX Contest, but you can look for them on 15, 20 and 40m, SSB.

UPDATE / CANCELLED – This weekend, the XF2L team was scheduled to operate on Lobos Island, NA-221, however weather conditions are getting worse, predicting adverse conditions to navigation. For this reason the harbor master, has decided that on Friday, the day on which the outbound trip to the island is scheduled, the port is closed to the navigation of small boats. The provider of transportation services tells us that we would have problems even for the return to land. For this reason the operation scheduled this weekend 24 to 27 March 2017 is cancelled due to weather conditions. We hope that in May the weather conditions will allow us to visit isla de lobos as it is scheduled.
MISE À JOUR / ANNULÉ – Ce week-end, l’équipe XF2L devait opérer sur l’île de Lobos, NA-221, mais les conditions météorologiques s’aggravent, prédisant des conditions défavorables à la navigation. Pour cette raison, le capitaine du port a décidé que le vendredi, jour prévu pour le départ de l’île, le port est fermé à la navigation des petits bateaux. Le fournisseur de services de transport nous dit que nous aurions des problèmes même pour le retour à la terre. Pour cette raison, l’opération prévue ce week-end du 24 au 27 mars 2017 est annulée en raison des conditions météorologiques. Nous espérons qu’en mai les conditions météorologiques nous permettront de visiter isla de lobos comme prévu.

MARCH 19 – The VQ917JC license I asked for just came through, so start looking for Jim ND9M to be on the air as VQ917JC. Jim told OPDX he will not make an effort on 60m at this time. His operating hours are still limited to 1200-1600z max which doesn’t do much good for the NA/SA ops. He states that he will probably focus on 30, 20, and 17 meters just to get VQ9 into some logs. Jim also mentioned he did bring his satellite equipment. QSL via his home callsign.
MARCH 13 – Jim, ND9M is again active from Diego Garcia, Chagos Archipelago, currently as VQ96JC, but hopes to change to VQ917JC soon. QRV on HF bands, CW. QSL via H/c.
