Craig VK5CE will be activating Gabo Island OC-196 on January 31 to February 1, 2017. The last organised IOTA DXpedition was back in 2001. There were a couple of lighthouse weekend operations but their focus was ILLW and not IOTA and hence QSOs were mainly with VK/ZL lighthouses and a little bit of DX, as indicated by there only being 2.8% claimed by current IOTA chasers in the last 8 years as per the 2016 IOTA Directory (page 118). Il y avait un couple d’opérations de fin de semaine du phare mais leur accent était ILLW et non IOTA et donc QSOs étaient principalement phares VK / ZL et un peu de DX, comme indiqué par là seulement étant de 2,8% réclamé par les chasseurs de IOTA actuels au cours des 8 dernières années comme le Répertoire IOTA 2016 (page 118). Mise à Jour de VE3LYC.. “It is almost 14 UTC (July 30) and I will be shortly starting my trip to the NW corner of Alaska. I will drive from home to Syracuse, NY, from where I will fly to Chicago, then Anchorage, and finally to Barrow, where I am scheduled to arrive tomorrow (July 31) around 19 UTC.

After the testing carried out with the multiband verticals last weekend, George (VE3GHK) generously offered to put the necessary time in order to bring the antennas to their original design. He was successful and the antennas and back within their original parameters. Nevertheless, I am taking the 20 m monoband vertical with me too.

I would like to thank very much to all of you who supported this project. Much obliged to everyone, including those who didn’t need NA-172 for a new IOTA, such as Luis (CT4HN), Johan (PA3EXX), Ken (W1NG), Tony (W4FOA), but wanted to be part of this adventure.” Website

Mise à Jour de VE3LYC. Il est presque 14 UTC (30 Juillet) et je vais commencer peu de temps mon voyage à l’angle nord-ouest de l’Alaska. Je vais conduire de la maison à Syracuse, État de New York, où je vais voler à Chicago, puis Anchorage, et enfin à Barrow, où je suis programmé pour arriver demain (31 Juillet) autour de 19 UTC.

Après les essais effectués avec les verticales multibandes week-end dernier, George (VE3GHK) a généreusement offert de mettre le temps nécessaire pour amener les antennes à leur conception originale. Il a réussi et les antennes et à l’arrière dans leurs paramètres d’origine. Néanmoins, je prends la 20 m monobande vertical avec moi aussi.

Je voudrais remercier beaucoup à tous ceux qui ont appuyé ce projet. Bien obligé à tout le monde, y compris ceux qui n’a pas besoin NA-172 pour un nouveau IOTA, comme Luis (CT4HN), Johan (PA3EXX), Ken (W1NG), Tony (W4FOA), mais je voulais faire partie de cette aventure Site Internet ICI

Pierre, VE3KTB, recently operating as VY0ERC from Eureka Amateur Radio Club, Ellesmere Island informs that later today he plans a quick flying visit to the McGill Arctic Research Station on Axel Heiberg Island, NA-043 (rare). He hopes to operate during spare time (Pierre will be there only 24 hours) using 100w into a vertical or dipole on 20m SSB. QSL via LoTW, Club Log.

UPDATE by VE3LYC.. “With only a few days left before heading up north, I spent the weekend checking all the equipment. After returning from the Antipodes Is. (ZL9A) in mid-January, I worked to alter the design of how the radials of the multi-band wire verticals were connected to the feeder line, in order improve the robustness of the overall antenna construction. The result is a definite improvement in the strength on the antenna wires. Unfortunately, this led, however, to a slight increase of the SWR, particularly on 20 m. As such, I spent time on Saturday to improve it, with mostly positive results. I have also checked the propagation forecast with various regions of the world, which allowed me to conclude firmly that the 20 and 30 m will be the bands of interest for this expedition. In view of this, with help from George (VE3GHK), I have now a 20 m monoband wire vertical with exceptionally low SWR on this band.” Website

Mise à Jour par VE3LYC.. “ Avec seulement quelques jours à gauche avant de se diriger vers le nord, je passai la vérification de tous les équipements week-end. Après le retour de Antipodes Is. (ZL9A) à la mi-Janvier, je travaille à modifier la conception de la façon dont les radiales des verticales de fil multi-bandes ont été connectés à la ligne d’alimentation, afin d’améliorer la robustesse de la construction globale de l’antenne. Il en résulte une nette amélioration de la résistance sur les fils d’antenne. Malheureusement, cela a conduit cependant à une légère augmentation de la SWR, en particulier sur 20 m. En tant que tel, je passais du temps le samedi pour l’améliorer, avec des résultats plutôt positifs. J’ai également vérifié les prévisions de propagation de diverses régions du monde, ce qui m’a permis de conclure fermement que le 20 et 30 m seront les groupes d’intérêt pour cette expédition. Compte tenu de cela, avec l’aide de George (VE3GHK), j’ai maintenant 20 m monobande fil vertical avec exceptionnellement bas SWR sur cette bande..” Site Internet ICI

This will include a Multi 2 entry in the 2016 RSBG IOTA contest as BY4AE. QSL via BD4DYH. Before and after contest, they will be signing B4/homecall. QSL’s via Homecalls. 2 stations will be QRV using amps. They will use Loops and Verticals, and low band RX ANT.
