VQ96JC – Diego Garcia

NEWS UPDATE – Jim, ND9M is again active from Diego Garcia, Chagos Archipelago, currently as VQ96JC, but hopes to change to VQ917JC soon. QRV on HF bands, CW. QSL via H/c.

Jim informed OPDX:

“I’m hoping to be back on the air later this week….. First I have to make new antennas; the old ones disappeared while I was gone. The operation will be the usual Field Day portable style each evening my time (GMT +6 all year); that is take the boat to the island, lug everything to ‘Fire House Park’ (where there’s actually 110VAC!), set up the rig and antennas, operate for 3 hours or so, break everything down, and pack it all back to the ship.

My VQ96JC license is still valid until July, but I’m trying to get in touch with the licensing officer to see if I can change it to “VQ917JC“. I’ve been using year-specific special calls every year starting in 2007 when I started with VQ97JC; my current ’96’ call is the 10th and last in the string of two-digit calls, so I figured I’d add a digit instead of recycle a previous callsign. All calls here must start with VQ9, so ’17’ for the year seems like the logical next step. There’s no guarantee of the callsign change happening until the ticket is in my hand, but they’ve always been very cooperative with my special prefix requests.”

J’espère être de retour sur l’air plus tard cette semaine … .. D’abord, je dois faire de nouvelles antennes; Les vieux disparurent pendant mon absence. L’opération sera le style portatif habituel de Field Day chaque soir mon temps (GMT +6 toute l’année); Qui est de prendre le bateau à l’île, tout atterrir à «Fire House Park» (où il ya réellement 110VAC!), Mis en place la plate-forme et les antennes, fonctionner pendant 3 heures ou plus, briser tout, et le pack tout retour à la navire.

Ma licence VQ96JC est toujours valide jusqu’en juillet, mais j’essaie d’entrer en contact avec l’agent de licence pour voir si je peux le changer en ‘VQ917JC’. J’ai utilisé des appels spéciaux spécifiques chaque année à partir de 2007 lorsque j’ai commencé avec VQ97JC; Mon appel actuel de «96» est le 10ème et dernier dans la chaîne des appels à deux chiffres, ainsi j’ai pensé que j’aurais ajouté un chiffre au lieu de recycler un indicatif précédent. Tous les appels ici doivent commencer par VQ9, donc ’17’ pour l’année semble être la prochaine étape logique. Il n’y a aucune garantie que le changement d’indicatif se produise jusqu’à ce que le billet soit entre mes mains, mais ils ont toujours été très coopératifs avec mes demandes de préfixe spéciales.
