Mike, GM0HCQ is now back on board the RRS James Clark Ross following a crew change today. The ship is now preparing to head south, initially to open the summer only base at Signy Island (part of the South Orkney Island group). This will be followed by a science cruise across the Drake Passage and then a run south into Antarctica and the first call of the season to Rothera Base, located on Adelaide Island.
There will be no radio activity from Signy Island, however a short period of operating may occur at the end of the month from Rothera Base.

Mike, GM0HCQ est de retour à bord du RRS James Clark Ross suite à un changement d’équipage aujourd’hui. Le navire se prépare maintenant à la tête vers le sud, d’abord pour ouvrir la base d’été seulement à l’île de Signy (une partie du groupe d’Orkney de l’île du Sud). Ce sera suivi d’une croisière scientifique à travers le passage Drake, puis une course vers le sud dans l’Antarctique et le premier appel de la saison à la base de Rothera, situé sur l’île Adelaide.
Il n’y aura pas d’activité radiophonique à partir de l’île Signy, mais une courte période d’exploitation peut se produire à la fin du mois à partir de la base de Rothera.

BOTA 70 – BIRTHDAY ON THE AIR – CULMINATING IN THE CARIBBEAN- V26BH & J70BH
After several activations from various DX locations during the year 2016, the party wagon will arrive in Antigua for the get-away birthday. V26BH will be active on the actual birthday, November 19, continuing with sporadic activity throughout the weekend.
The party will then move forward to the Commonwealth of Dominica in order to participate in the CQWW CW contest as J70BH. Brian, K1LI, Dan, K1TO, Leena, OH2BE, Martti, OH2BH, Petri, OH2NB and Juha, OH8NC will handle the violins while they are supported by Brian, N3OC, George, K5KG, Lambert, J73LC, Kelly, SM7NHC, Radio Arcala, Yaesu Musen and Expert Amps USA.
QSOs with V26BH and J70BH count for 5 points toward the BOTA award. On the actual day, November 19, communication with the party is also possible through bota2016@gmail.com.
In addition to these on-air activities, HamSphere(R), the Virtual Amateur Radio platform, will be introduced to the educational system of Dominica on November 23. Under the group’s supervision, selected youth teams will compete for speed and accuracy in an emergency communication drill dubbed “Haminica 2016” as well as getting introduced to virtual version of Amateur Radio. Here the Amateur Radio is experienced in the typical hangout of youth – the Internet. The project is sponsored by Dominica’s National Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, including NTRC Executive Director Craig Nesty and Engineer George James, J73GJ.
The other end of the traffic exercise is managed/observed at the ARRL HQ.
BOTA 70 – BIRTHDAY ON THE AIR – CULMINATING IN THE CARIBBEAN- V26BH & J70BH
Après plusieurs activations de différents endroits DX pendant l’année 2016, le wagon du parti arrivera à Antigua pour le jour de la fête. V26BH Sera actif le jour même de l’anniversaire, le 19 novembre, poursuivant une activité sporadique tout au long du week-end.
Le parti ira alors vers le Commonwealth de la Dominique afin de participer au concours de CQWW CW comme J70BH. En plus de ces activités en direct, HamSphere (R), la plate-forme de radio amateur virtuelle, sera présentée au système éducatif de la Dominique le 23 novembre. Sous la supervision du groupe, des équipes de jeunes sélectionnées affronteront la vitesse et l’exactitude en cas d’urgence Communication drill doublé « Haminica 2016 » ainsi que d’obtenir introduit à la version virtuelle de la radio amateur. Ici, la radio amateur est expérimentée dans le lieu typique de la jeunesse – l’Internet. Le projet est parrainé par la Commission nationale de réglementation des télécommunications de la Dominique, dont le directeur exécutif du CNTR, Craig Nesty, et l’ingénieur George James, J73GJ.
L’autre extrémité de l’exercice de circulation est gérée / observée au HQ ARRL.

UPDATE – The Italian DXpedition Team announces its forthcoming activity as TL8TT from the Central African Republic in February 2017.
They will be active on all bands 160-10m on CW/SSB, whereas ONE band, to be selected according to propagation conditions, will be used for RTTY.

I have obtained authorization to operate as TL8AO in the Central African Republic. So I plan to go to Bangui as a single-op in 2016 and mainly do some CW. TL is ranked 50 WW mixed and 20 on cw. This will be similar to my 7Q, D6 and 3C activities – except this time I will be on 80m as well. More details later.

Felix, DL5XL (N5BC), will once again operate from Antarctica using his callsign DP1POL. QTH is the German research base « Neumayer III » in Grid Locator IB59UH, IOTA AN-016, WWFF DLFF-022.
Activity will be from November 2016 to February 2017 on the HF bands, mainly in CW and digital modes. QSL manager is Ray, DL1ZBO, who reliably responds to all bureau and direct requests. Additionally, logs are uploaded to LoTW regularly.
There will also be a ham radio operator on the next wintering team at Neumayer Station III. Daniel, DL1SU, works as an electronics engineer at the base. He plans to use the club call sign DP0GVN from December 2016 to February 2018. QSL cards for DP0GVN will be handled by Dominik, DL5EBE, direct or via the bureau.

Jack Matang Tekitanga, T30TM is a new operator and local resident on Tarawa island, Kiribati. Although not very active he does sometimes check into the ANZA Net (14183Mhz @ 0500z) or the 7163 DX Group (7163Mhz @ 0900-1200z).
He uses an ICOM IC-M700 transceiver which has no S-meter.
QSL direct only to VK1TX.

Zorro, JH1AJT will be active from Myanmar (XZ) with Champ, E21EIC, Franz, DJ9ZB and Madison, W5MJ, from 15th to 22nd November 2016.
His main purpose of this trip is to support Olympic and Paralympic Committee in Myanmar.
Activity will be on 80 – 10m bands CW, SSB and RTTY, by two stations, using a tri-band beam for 20/15/10m and another beam for 30/17/12m bands. Wire verticals will be used for other bands.

NEWS UPDATE – The ship to Mwokil island OC-226, which the V6J team have been waiting on, was unfortunately cancelled – it had initially broken down and then the destination was changed several times. However, the team will not give up. They will try to be on board the next ship departing in Spring 2017. Updates on ship schedule to follow.

October 29 Tom informs « I’m in the Philippines right now until 25 November. The callsign for this DXpedition is 4I7COW. This unique prefix has never been issued before so it should generate some good interest. I’m exploring Manila right now & will be traveling to my operating QTH in the south of the Philippines in another week or so. I plan on being QRV by early November ».
October 21, 2016 – Tom, KC0W, fresh from his Pacific tour has announced he will be active from the Philippines between 26 October – 25 November. Furthermore, he now plans to visit Equatorial Guinea on a fact finding mission after 4I7COW goes QRT, and request licensing for Annobon Island and Equatorial Guinea.
