Dear friends!<\/span><\/p>\n

With deep regret I am informing you that we have another DXCC entity like P5, which isn\u2019t available for amateur radio operation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since 2018 I am struggling to get a chance to visit Marion island. I have obtained license and callsign ZS8W. Visiting the island is only possible once a year in April, when the Antarctic station team is being changed.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2019 a week before ship departure I got an encouraging letter, that I can join because they need radio engineer. I immediately started to arrange visa in Stockholm, but while on my way to the embassy, I got another letter saying that at the end they don\u2019t need an engineer. <\/span>But the letter gave hope for the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

With regret I have to inform you that our Board of Directors informed me that this is a too tight schedule, however they will consider you for the next voyage. My humble apologies to make go through all the trouble to apply for a Visa.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2020 due to Covid restrictions visa was not granted. Next year well in advance I obtained visa, sent antennas un 2 weeks before departure of the ship came to Cape Town. I met director of the department, Nishendra Devanunthan, and his deputy, Chuma Phamoli. Unfortunately director and his deputy had forgotten about the promise of Board of Directors <\/span>from 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Director kindly informed me that this year (2021) it would not be possible. And suggested that I offer to build amateur radio emergency communications network among the Antarctic stations. Idea was good and such project seemed interesting. I stayed in Cape Town for 10 days and returned home with hope for the next year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Within 6 months I wrote the letter from Latvian Radio Sport Federation offering to establish such Emergency network free of charge.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Director kept silence, not even mentioning official letter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beginning of March director Nishendra informed me by phone that they don\u2019t need such network and I should not come. I flew to Cape Town and met the deputy, however got the response that she is not a decision maker and forwarded me to another official.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is one week left until the departure of the ship. I will meet director Nishendra on Thursday, April 7, 14:00 and will give him a gift \u2013 the flag of expedition – and thank him for unsuccessful cooperation.<\/span><\/p>\n

I invite amateurs around the world to send your regrets to Director and his deputy. It would be good if the Director received a few hundred emails before our final conversation.<\/span><\/p>\n

L’id\u00e9e \u00e9tait bonne et un tel projet semblait int\u00e9ressant. Je suis rest\u00e9 au Cap pendant 10 jours et je suis rentr\u00e9 chez moi avec espoir pour l’ann\u00e9e prochaine.<\/p>\n

En l’espace de 6 mois, j’ai \u00e9crit la lettre de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration lettone des radiosports proposant d’\u00e9tablir gratuitement un tel r\u00e9seau d’urgence.<\/p>\n

Le directeur a gard\u00e9 le silence, sans m\u00eame mentionner la lettre officielle.<\/p>\n

D\u00e9but mars, le directeur Nishendra m’a inform\u00e9 par t\u00e9l\u00e9phone qu’ils n’avaient pas besoin d’un tel r\u00e9seau et que je ne devrais pas venir. J’ai pris l’avion pour Cape Town et j’ai rencontr\u00e9 l’adjoint, mais j’ai re\u00e7u la r\u00e9ponse qu’elle n’\u00e9tait pas un d\u00e9cideur et m’a transmis \u00e0 un autre fonctionnaire.<\/p>\n
