As on last &nbsp;Jan. 29 Japan marked the <strong>60th anniversary of the<br \/>\nopening of its first base in Antarctica<\/strong> , its commitment to the southern continent remains solid, with a<strong> fifth base planned<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7625 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.waponline.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Japan-Project-for-the-5th-Base-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"\" \nwidth=\"300\" height=\"197\" \/>Japan will soon begin working toward construction of a new Antarctic base to continue with research into climate change over the past 1 million years.<br \/>\nMembers of the 59th expedition team will select a location for the new research station. Plans call for the start of research after completion of the base in five years&#8217; time.<br \/>\nIt will be the first for Japan since the <strong>Dome Fuji Station<\/strong> (WAP JPN-\u00d84) was opened in 1995.
