Worldwide Antarctic Program<\/center><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><center><b><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">India aims to have its first Polar Research Vessel<\/span><\/b><\/center><br \/>\n<time class=\"entry-date published\" datetime=\"2023-08-21T15:20:50+01:00\">21 ao\u00fbt 2023<\/time><\/p>\n<p>In the next five years in order to sustain its bases in <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Antarctica<\/strong><\/span>, <strong>India<\/strong> aims to have its first <strong>Polar Research Vessel<\/strong> (<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>PRV<\/strong><\/span>) as told by <strong><em>Union Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that in 2014, the Cabinet had approved Rs 1,051 crore to acquire the vessel. A tender was also floated for the same. In the next five years, we should be ready with the ship,&#8221; <em>Mr Rijiju stated.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>PRV<\/strong> will play a crucial role in supporting India&#8217;s bases in Antarctica and the Arctic. India currently operates three research base stations in the polar regions, and continuous access to these stations is essential for conducting various research activities, especially those related to climate change.<br \/>\nApart from logistical support, a <strong>PRV<\/strong> can serve as a research platform for scientists to conduct studies in the ocean realm, including the Southern Ocean.
